Dudhwa National Park is currently the only national park in Uttar Pradesh.


1. Dudhwa National Park

  1. The park is known as the 1st National Park of the Uttar Pradesh after formation of Uttrakhand in 2000.
  2. It is located in the Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, India.
  3. It is situated in the Terai region of the Himalayan foothills.
  4. The park is situated in the northeastern part of the state, near the border with Nepal.
  5. In 1861, the British government declared 775 Km2 forest area between Mohana and Suhaili river as reserved forest.
  6. In 1965, the area was declared a wildlife sanctuary to protect the swamp deer (barasingha) population.
  7. In 1977, the sanctuary was upgraded to a national park.
  8. In 1987, Dudhwa National Park and the Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary was together declared a tiger reserve under Project Tiger.
  9. Area: It covers an area of approximately 490 square kilometers (190 square miles).
  10. River: Suheli and Mohana rivers flow through the Dudhwa National Park.
  11. Lake: The major lakes in the park are Banke Tal, Kakraha Range, Sathiyana Range.
  12. Flora: Sal, Asna, Sisam, Jamun, Gular, Bahera, , Semal, Khair, Bamboo etc.
  13. Fauna: Bengal Tiger, Swamp Deer, Indian One-horned Rhinoceros, Asiatic Elephant, Leopard, Sambar, Cheetal, Sloth Bear, Porcupine, Bengal Florican, Red Jungle Fowl, Fishing Eagle, Bengal Florican, Python, Monitor lizard, Mugger, Gharial etc.
